In 1992, Clive won the prestigious BBC Radio Light Entertainment Contract Writers Award (previous winners include Angus Deayton and Rory McGrath). Clive wrote for ‘Weekending’, ‘The News Huddlines’ and wrote the sit-com ‘Hair In The Gate’, starring Allistair McGowan.
He also co-wrote and starred in the sketch show ‘Control Group 6’, nominated for the 1996 Writer’s Guild Award for best radio comedy.
Clive’s television work includes: ‘Spitting Image’, ‘Smith and Jones’, and ‘Clive Anderson Talks Back’, although he is perhaps best know for ’Chambers’ his hit BBC1 sit-com about barristers, starring John Bird, James Fleet and Sarah Lancashire. ‘Chambers’ ran for three series on BBC Radio 4 before transferring to television where there have been 2 series on BBC1. In 1998 he won the BBC’s inaugural ‘Frank Muir Award’, for outstanding comedy writing. He works on new comedy and drama projects with Tiger Aspect Productions and Verity Lambert.
Clive Coleman has also written an occasional column for ‘The Independent’ in the guise of John Fuller-Carp, the character played by John Bird in ‘Chambers’. Clive’s television drama credits include: ‘The Bill’ (for whom he has also acted as legal consultant on court based storylines), ‘Heartbeat’ and ‘Crossroads’. Clive has also written the links for many corporate and industry awards ceremonies that have enabled the host to deliver tailored ‘industry specific’ links that keep the pace up and the tone humorous. His years of experience in writing for and performing at such events means that he can give invaluable advice on the format of the ceremonies, the way in which sponsors, guest presenters and award winners are introduced, topping and tailing the ceremony etc.
