The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1970 by the Nashville Songwriters Foundation, Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. A non-profit organisation, its objective is to honour and preserve the songwriting legacy that is uniquely associated with the music community in the city of Nashville. The Foundation’s stated purpose is to educate, archive, and celebrate the contributions of the members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame to the world of music.
The Nashville Songwriters Foundation, Inc., is governed by a board of directors, currently consisting of thirteen members. Annually, three songwriters are inducted into the Hall of Fame. Nashville elected its first female mayor, Megan Barry, on September 25, 2015. As a council member, Barry had officiated at the city’s first same-sex wedding on June 26, 2015. In 2017, Nashville’s economy was deemed the third fastest-growing in the nation and the city was named the “hottest housing market in the US” by Freddie Mac realtors.
In May 2017, census estimates showed Nashville had passed Memphis to become most populated city in Tennessee. Nashville has also made national headlines for its “homelessness crisis”. Rising housing prices and the opioid crisis have resulted in more people being out on the streets: as of 2018, between 2,300 and 20,000 Nashvillians are homeless. (Wikipedia)
