The Assist
Underground band The Assist has evolved into one of the UK’s most established 5 piece underground groups ever since forming in 2014. The Assist have had their finger on the pulse and have redefined the boundaries of independent music with their acclaimed kaleidoscopic styles, fresh impetus, hope and melody. This is how the modern generation consume music.
Soaking their soaring indie anthems with hip-hop-inflected beats, dance-tinged rhythms and blistering breakdowns. It’s this eclectic adventurism that has seen The Assist sell out venues across Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield. They have also shared the stage with the Happy Mondays and Blossoms. Not to mention playing in Paris with Black Honey and touring the main rooms of the UK’s O2 Academy’s with local heroes The Twang. The five-piece completed a six-date tour performing in front of over 12,000 people.

Their album ‘Council Pop’ released on April 8th 2022. ‘Irrational Movements’ fronted the campaign and was the first of the singles set to be released prior to the album launch. This album epitomises everything The Assist stand for and they truly believe in this collection of music and have some very exciting plans in place with serious hopes of making some noise. ‘Irrational Movements’ touches on how the band struggle to acclimatise to a modern-day society that prioritises materialistic possessions over life itself.
Prior to the global pandemic The Assist released their debut EP ‘Lost’ which charted at #10 in the iTunes alternative chart. They toured the EP thoroughly and played their biggest festival performance to date to over 10,000 people. Over the last few years they’ve also played Reading & Leeds festival, Isle of Wight, Y-Not, TRNSMT and Kendal Calling. Radio play on Radio X and BBC Radio 6. Support slots with RatBoy, Jaws, Blossoms, The Blinders & Happy Mondays. Appeared on Soccer AM. European shows including supporting Black Honey in Paris. Tour support with The Twang.

‘I Don’t Care’ is another entry to the band’s commendable canon, who are most certainly in the Eden Hazard category of assists. Speaking of football, the band previously enjoyed a starring slot on the landmark television show Soccer AM. While away from the pitch they’ve graced big stages at festivals such as Reading & Leeds, TRANSMT, Y-NOT and Isle of Wight.
Their 2018 EP, ‘LOST’, charted in both Spotify’s ‘top 50 most streamed tracks in the UK’ and iTunes’ Top 10 indie chart. And, if this wasn’t impressive enough, these Brummie scamps’ sounds have soundtracked the upper-crust scandals in long-standing E4 show Made in Chelsea. You may have previously heard The Assist on BBC Radio 6 where they have been praised by the likes of Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq.
Irrational Movements and Council Pops
As much as The Assist’s more reflective notions have shone through in their most recent releases, this track is an embodiment of who the band are as people. With 2019 came a new-found pride in their art. They welcomed their biggest ever gigs and now have an extended catalogue of youthful indie-anthems tucked into their back pocket.
